Departed from the port of Livorno on board theAmerigo Vespucci at the end of June, the students of the 1st class of the Naval Academy are carrying out the educational campaign that will see them, until the end of the summer, sail the waters of the seas of our country in search of exciting experiences and new challenges.

The passage from the Accademia square to the deck of the training ship is allowing future officers of the Navy to experience firsthand what has been learned so far on a theoretical level, but even more to live exciting moments to build their future and thus savor the meaning of the famous motto of the "Lady of the Seas": "Not who begins but what perseveres".

Perseverance and desire to get involved are in fact among the characteristics that students must develop during a "unique training campaign of its kind" such as this year, based almost exclusively on sailing, aimed at highlighting the important historical roots that they support the traditions of our country and the armed force.

The students immediately became familiar with the marine environment and integrated with the important professionals on board in a healthy, lively and dynamic environment. During the navigation, characterized by particular favorable weather conditions, the training ship was able to exploit the wind to inflate the sails and allow young students to carry out extremely fascinating activities for their professional growth, such as crossing the Passo delle Bisce in the archipelago of La Maddalena and the Strait of Messina.

Ability and tenacity are the values highlighted by the students, the real protagonists of the on-board activities: each of them are assigned specific tasks on a daily basis that are leading them to develop a high sense of responsibility and a spirit of cohesion, both fundamental characteristics to become a sailor, as confirmed by the words of the pupil of the General Staff Umberto Fontana: "It is very educational for us to have the opportunity to put into practice what we learned on the Naval Academy benches and to have been, for example, support to the precision navigation team during the first passage in the history of Nave Vespucci across the Pass delle Bisce in the waters, north of Sardinia ".
