Atalanta: Marceglia concludes participation in the EU operation

The frigate is back in Italy Antonio Marceglia of the Italian Navy. The ship has recently concluded its participation, as a flagship, in the European anti-piracy operation EUNAVFOR - Atalanta, ensuring the tasks of presence and surveillance along the maritime traffic lines aimed at combating the phenomenon of piracy in the area between the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and part of the Indian Ocean.

In Taranto, where it will make a logistic stop, the crew of Nave Marceglia he will be welcomed by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

From aboard the Italian frigate, the captain of the vessel Armando Simi exercised the tactical command of the operation, in the role of Force Commander of naval force. Under his command, the assigned naval units patrolled the areas of interest and the transit corridors of the merchant units, helping to discourage acts of piracy, in collaboration with the other naval forces present in the area.

In almost five months of participation in the operation Atalanta, the ship's crew Marceglia has conducted training activities for local communities; the men and women embarked on the Frigate transmitted their knowledge on the subject of maritime security, in the context of Local Maritime Capacity Building (LMCB), to the Navy and Coast Guard of Djibouti, the Seychelles, Kenya and Oman with the aim of developing autonomous capacities to combat illegal activities including piracy.
