Lebanon: The "Taurinense" Alpine Brigade takes command of UNIFIL's Sector West

Today in the afternoon, the “Taurinense” Alpine brigade took over the “Friuli” aircraft brigade, driving the Sector West of UNIFIL.

At the handover ceremony between the general Salvatore Cuoci, transferor, and the successor general Franco Federici, held at the base "Millevoi" of Shama, the commander of the Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COI), general of the army corps Marco Bertolini, and the force commander of UNIFIL, division general Luciano Portolano, who supervised the passage of the flag of UNIFIL.

In his speech, General Bertolini thanked the contingent of Friuli for the work done which helped to strengthen the relations between UNIFIL and the Lebanese population, at the same time wishing good work to the Taurinense Alpine troops who now take charge of the Sector West.

The event was attended by local political, religious and military authorities as well as delegations of different nationalities present in UNIFIL.

The "Taurinense" Alpine brigade, supplemented by French units within the newly formed Italian-French brigade command, then assumes command of the Sector West of UNIFIL, responsible for all of southern Lebanon and to which 13 nations contribute, for a total of approximately 3000 peacekeepers.
