The carabinieri of MIADIT Somalia (Bilateral Training Mission of the Somali and Djiboutian Police Forces) have concluded a training course for unité cynophile of the Gendarmerie Nationale Djiboutienne.

During the five weeks of theoretical and practical activities, the dog instructors of the Carabinieri trained the Djiboutian dog units in order to improve their operational capabilities in the search for explosives and explosive substances, and in techniques for combating potential threats.

The objective of the course - which culminated with a ceremony held at the "Cheick Moussa" National Gendarmerie in Arta - was to train dog-handler pairs capable of carrying out, in total autonomy, police operations in support of the special anti-terrorism departments, activity of finding explosive material and explosive substances, searches of buildings, arrests and management of hostile individuals.

The Defense, through the Carabinieri, provides its contribution to this type of training, deploying its instructors belonging to the "Centro Carabinieri Cinofili" of Florence. Their task, in addition to transmitting theoretical-practical notions on the management of one's dog in service operations, is also to provide indications on how to logistically manage a dog department, an essential aspect for the animal's well-being and health maintenance. . Another important aspect is the construction of a symbiotic relationship between dog and handler.
