Lebanon: General Graziano visits UNIFIL

The army chief of staff, general of the corps of army Claudio Graziano, arrived yesterday in Lebanon to visit the national contingent. To welcome him to the heliport of ITALAIR, the general division Luciano Portolano, head of mission and force commander of UNIFIL.

The army chief of staff, formerly commander of the UNIFIL mission from the 2007 to the 2010, received an update of the situation in the area of ​​responsibility.

General Portolano highlighted "that although the UNIFIL sector is stable, the threat brought to Lebanon by armed groups linked to ISIS or Qaedist wire has imposed an increase in land control activities, in cooperation with the Lebanese armed forces, especially in the eastern sector of the area of ​​responsibility, the most sensitive in light of the recent clashes between Druze and rebels, on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon ".

The UNIFIL commander then explained the progress made by the mission on the various projects begun by General Graziano during his term of office, with particular reference to the "tripartite meeting", a mechanism of confidence building between Lebanon and Israel, launched in Following the ratification of the UN Security Council's 1701 Resolution and implemented by the current army chief of staff.

The Italian staff present at Naqoura's base, General Graziano, welcomed the visit to Shama, to the national contingent on brigade base "Pinerolo", where, received by the commander of the western sector, Brigadier General Stefano Del Col, he received an update on the current operating situation of the Italian-led sector.

In his speech, the army chief of staff stressed "You are doing well, the parties are recognizing it, the Lebanese recognize it and our allies recognize it, we are here to maintain and guarantee the conditions of peace. it is not risk-free, we must always be vigilant and keep the rigor, the attention and the ability to react to the maximum.
