On Friday a delegation from the European Parliament's Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) commission, including five deputies, visited the Bergamini ship, the command headquarters of the operation Safe Sea.
Guests were greeted by the operation commander, rear-admiral Paolo Pezzutti and the ship's captain, frigate captain Alberto Tarabotto.
After illustrating the scenario of the Mediterranean Sea and the tasks of the operation, the on-board equipment and the characteristics of the Bergamini ship were shown, focusing in particular on accommodations and rescue procedures.
Finally, during the visit, a practical exercise was held Casualty Evacuation (CASEVAC) for the evacuation of wounded.
After the visit, the delegation moved aboard the Phoenix unit, belonging to the Maltese non-governmental organization Migrants Offshore Aid Station (MOAS).
