Monday 04 December 2023 Ship Montecuccoli welcomed in the waters of the Gulf of Taranto the sailing ship "Buque Escuela a Vela Unión", a training ship of the Peruvian Navy, engaged in the annual training campaign with on board the visitors of the Peruvian "Escuela Naval" (ESNA).
Four-masted sailing ship, 115 meters long and 3500 tons, the BAP Union it left last June 17th from the naval base of Callao in Peru. It will sail for ten continuous months, touching three different continents and visiting 20 ports in 16 different countries, including the City of the Two Seas in Italy.
Ship Montecuccoli, in the midst of the "Elementary Internship" under the guidance of the Naval Air Training Center of the Navy, crossed paths with the Peruvian unit headed towards the port of Taranto to carry out some joint exercises, including formation maneuvers and procedures of communication with flashes of light, and then accompanied it to the entrance of the Mar Grande. The sailing ship presented itself with an evocative greeting in the voice and the commander, captain of navigation Jose "Pepe" Arce, in radio communications with the commander of Montecuccoli, wanted to express his satisfaction for the opportunity to sail together, thus strengthening the historic bond between the crews of the two friendly countries.
For Ship Montecuccoli, on the day of Santa Barbara, it was an honor to be able to say goodbye to theUnion upon her arrival in Italy and to be able to accompany her even just for a few miles during her world tour.
