Last flag of Fenice and Sphinx corvettes

Monday 29 May, at 20.00 hours at the Tullio Marcon quay in Augusta (SR), home of Command of Patrol Forces for Coast Guard and Defense (COMFORPAT), the corvette Fenice (photo below) and the corvette Sphinx (photo opening) of the Navy will end the operational life, after almost 30 years of activity at the service of institutions and the community.

The formal act, with which ship Fenice of the ship Sphinx will be disbarred from the Navy fleet, will take place with the ceremony of the last flag drop presided over by the Navy Chief of Staff, team admiral Valter Girardelli in the presence of the commander in chief of the naval team admiral Donato Marzano.

With the cancellation from the roles of the military corvette Fenice e Sphinx, the process of downsizing the Navy fleet continues. In fact, a plan has been underway for some time, which has seen the dismantling of important naval units, such as frigates, due to their wear and age. Mistral ed Aliseo, the corvettes Minerva, Sibilla, Danaide, Urania, the deep patrol sailors Grenadier e Gunner and hunters Lerici e Sapri.

The ship fighting flags Fenice of the ship Sphinx they will be delivered, during the ceremony, to the Chief of Staff of the Navy, to be subsequently preserved in Rome in the Memorial Museum of the Armed Forces flags, inside the Altare della Patria.
