Surface Warships 2015

From the 26 to the January 28, in Genoa, the Surface Warships 2015 conference was organized by IQPC (International Quality and Productivity Center) Defense (now in its fifth edition) in which the programs of modernization and renewal of the various military navies are presented and state of the art of the main systems and equipment of the combat system and of the platform as well as being an opportunity to exchange knowledge and information between the various operators in the military naval sector.

On the first day of the conference, a visit to the Muggiano di Fincantieri shipyard and the Oto Melara plant was organized.

The visit on board of a ship belonging to the Bergamini class (FREMM) was highly appreciated, especially by representatives of foreign military marines.

The next two days were dedicated to presentations held by both military and industrial marine representatives.

Rear Admiral of the Naval Engineers Roberto Dattola, of the Naval Department of the Navy Staff, gave a presentation entitled "The new Italian Navy shipbuilding program: an innovative approach to naval design" in which the criteria and guidelines that are were followed in the feasibility study and in the basic design of the new navy units that will be built as part of the ambitious program of renewal of the military naval instrument.

Respect for the environment, as envisaged by the well-known "Green Fleet" project, the dual use of naval units and the use of the engineering criterion of modularity are the main guidelines followed during the design of the future ships of the Italian Navy that will be a logistic support unit (LSS), an amphibious multirole unit (LHD) and a class of multipurpose offshore patrol vessels (PPA).

The presentation presented the main characteristics of the individual units in terms of performance, functionality and peculiarities.
