Smerex 2013: submarine rescue exercise

22/09/14

A submersible rescue exercise was held in Taranto, called SMEREX 2014, during which the ship crew Anteo and the staff of the Underwater Operating Group carried out an intense and profitable cycle of dives that allowed to verify the efficiency of the various underwater assets supplied to Comsubin.

The activities included in the exercise program and the presence of the Sciré and Pelosi submarines allowed the use of the special Anteo ship equipment in highly realistic operational scenarios.

With the boats resting on the bottom awaiting rescue, the divers of the navy intervened both to transfer to the surface part of the crews of the submarines, and to save those who had to carry out the individual spill, if the living conditions were no longer acceptable. inside of the hulls.

Thus, on the deck of the submarines, numerous dives alternated with the rigid diving suit ADS (Atmospheric Diving System), through the hyperbaric operators and the integrated plant for deep dives, with the McCann rescue bell, through the underwater Pegaso robots and Falcon and through the SRV 300 rescue submarine.

The activities, carried out in the presence of numerous foreign observers, ended with the intervention of the SPA (Submariner Parachute Assistance Group) consisting of divers, submariner technicians and a health team that, through a C-130 of the Italian Air Force, he dropped into an area where a submarine in distress had been reported. The nucleus thus set up a floating citadel, consisting of self-inflating structures, which allowed assistance to be provided to those who had to leave the boat through the individual leakage.

The exercise was conducted following major maintenance work to promote the underwater operating capabilities of the Anteo Anteo vessel: at a distance of 5 years since the last submarine was mounted on the deck, the special equipment of the Unit again operated at maximum of their effectiveness.
