"The richness of life is made of forgotten memories"Said Cesare Pavese. Who does not forget, but rather looks to the past to build the future is the Navy. Is titled "Remember the past. Building the future”The 2018 calendar of the Armed Force, presented in Genoa on the occasion of the 57ª edition of the Boat Show. The main theme of this new iconographic project is the anniversary of the Great War.

"I like to define this calendar as a time machine that allows all of us to go back to the past, see what happened and understand that things have often not changed: the work of the Navy is tireless as the passion and professionalism of the people who work there"Commented the captain of the vessel, Luca Anconelli, image and promotion manager of the Navy.

1918-2018: one hundred years those that from the end of the Great War lead to today, to the so-called "blue century". 100 years since that 10 June 1918, from the heroic action of Premuda, where i MAS 15 and 21, commanded by the corvette captain Luigi Rizzo and Ensign Giuseppe Aonzo surprised an enemy naval formation, sinking the battleship St. Stephen (Santo Stefano). A memorable victory on the sea that paved the way for the defeat of the Central Empires and which is remembered in the calendar just in June (see photo). 100 years during which the means and technical skills of the crews have changed, but the sense of duty and the specialized ability that the Navy staff expresses in their service to protect, support and the foundation of peaceful development and well-being has remained unchanged of Italy and its citizens.

"Remember the past. Building the future": An exciting parallel to the calendar, where yesterday's photos, taken from the photographic archive of the Armed Forces, are flanked by those of today, unique shots immortalized by photographer Fabrizio Villa. A narrative path marked by a "strong blue line"Which unites the two eras: a line traced by values such as honor, courage, loyalty, tradition, fundamental for the sailors of yesterday, today and tomorrow. "Every year we look for new ideas, but above all linked to the traditions that distinguish us"Added the commander Anconelli.

And then here is the 2018 calendar. 24 images of men, women, ships, planes, submarines, naval bases, but also navigation details, such as the photo of March which today shows FREMM (European Multi Mission Frigate) Carabiniere, yesterday the destroyer Ippolito Nievo, cross the navigable canal of the swing bridge entering the small sea of Taranto. And again in April with activities to support the most fragile: today with Nave Italy, Where "going by sea"Becomes a tool for education, training, therapy and social inclusion for young people with disabilities or social problems; yesterday with the Regia Nave Caracciolo for orphaned children. A calendar that opens, even before the months, with an image of theAmerigo Vespucci, symbol of departure for every sailor and of perfect union between tradition and innovation and that closes with other 12 images of past and present that will be the subject of a traveling exhibition. A product that combines the strength of images with that of solidarity: this year the historical calendar is dedicated to the Francesca Rava Foundation, with which the Armed Force has been operating for several years.

"Remembering the past, building the future must be a message for everyone and not just for the Navy"Commander Anconelli declared at the end of the presentation. And if memories of the past teach, then it's time to use this time machine to go ahead and dream, even before building, of a better future.
