Friday, April 22, at East pier of the port of Reggio Calabria ship Carlo Margottini joins the naval fleet of the Navy with the traditional ceremony of delivery of the fighting flag that consecrates her as the third ship of the Fremm program, European multi-mission frigates. On the quay, the amphibious ship San Marco also enriches the frame.

Reggio Calabria itself was the setting for the delivery of the combat flag to the first Margottini ship, in 1963, with the honor of bringing into the seas for the second time the name of the vessel captain Carlo Margottini, gold medal for valor military to memory. The combat flag was delivered by the mayor of the city lawyer Giuseppe Falcomatá to the commander of the frigate captain unit Massimo Bonu, in the presence of the Undersecretary of Defense, Honorable Domenico Rossi, of the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi and numerous military and civil authorities who, with emotion and pride, wished good wind to the ship and its crew.

The combat flag is traditionally the distinctive banner of each military unit and establishes its operational entry into the naval team. At the end of the ceremony the flag was placed inside the hood donated by the Italian sailors association of Reggio Calabria.
Nave Carlo Margottini was designed according to a dual philosophy, to carry out military and civil operations. Launched on 29 June 2013 in the Fincantieri plants of Riva Trigoso, with a crew of 167 people, it is 144 meters long, 19 wide and has a displacement of 6700 tons.

The ship, which will now be guided by its flag in safeguarding and protecting the nation, spokesman and witness of the great hero whose name it bears, is framed in the First Naval Group (Comgrupnav1), in the naval base of La Spezia.

The delivery ceremony of the fighting flag was enriched by a rich program of events for the public that began two days earlier, with visits aboard the ships, the laying of a wreath at the Monument to the Sailor, the exhibition of the high representation platoon of the 3rd rgt. San Marco and the naval fanfare.
