One of the institutional tasks of the Navy divers is the rescue of personnel locked up inside the submarines who are unable to return to the surface.

These rescue operations of the "damaged" submarines are entrusted to Diving and Inshore Pools "Teseo Tesei", which makes use of the men of the Diving Operations Group and special diving equipment on board a ship Antaeus, like the SRV-300 rescue mini-submarine.

To acquire these operational skills you need a lot of experience, to be gained over time and, above all, continuous training by simulating scenarios with maximum realism.

For this reason, as part of the bilateral cooperation between the Italian and Israeli Navy, the submarine rescue exercise called "Rising Star 1" was held in the Gulf of Taranto from 2 to 2016 June 2016, confirming the interoperability between the SRV-300 rescue minisubmarine, fitted to the ship Antaeus, and the Israeli submarine Leviathan, class U-212.

During the underwater operations, conducted at a depth of approximately 40 meters, part of the crew of the Israeli boat was transferred to the SRV 300 and became familiar with the sonar search procedures and the landing and sucking maneuvers on the escape hatch of a submarine laid on the bottom.

This activity has strengthened the excellent relationship of collaboration with the Israeli Navy, a privileged interlocutor of the Italian one in the rescue of its submarines.
