This morning SIM Marina wrote to the Defense Committees of the House and Senate to request the adoption of the International Mission for the crews of the naval units employed in the Operation Aspides. From the decisions taken, the Navy soldiers will understand how and how much politics cares about personnel issues.
The note sent is attached.
To the Defense Commission of the Chamber of Deputies
Defense and Foreign Affairs Commission of the Senate of the Republic
e,pc: mr. Minister of Defense Hon. Guido Crosetto
SUBJECT: Operation ASPIDES – No to the Flat Rate Employment Compensation, YES to the International Mission
Distinguished Ladies, Soon the MM personnel employed in the delicate and dangerous Aspides operation will see how the State has intended to economically qualify its efforts. In this regard, it will be you who will shortly evaluate the quantification of the financial effects of the operation which, in our opinion, will not have to find the payment of the IFC but that of the International Mission in the same way as the other Armed Forces and the personnel operating on the ground in the States of the affected area. In fact, the ships call at the ports of those areas and then set sail again and carry out patrolling operations and there is no difference whatsoever with the operational actions undertaken by the other military forces, except - paradoxically - that at sea there are greater dangers such as demonstrated a few days ago by the shooting down of a drone by the Duilio ship.
Your decision could make a difference and will have a strong impact on the dignity of treatment of the men and women of the Naval Units employed in this delicate Italian-led mission, and the entire staff of the MM as well as the associates and this Union will be grateful to you.
