After two months of hard training, the first OSSALC 2014 course (Carena Workers' Security Service Operators) came to an end for the nine newly patented.

The course, which began on January 13th at the Varignano operational base, where the divers and incursors command (COMSUBIN) is based, saw the initial twenty-four aspiring divers, of different degrees and specializations, undergo intense training aimed at acquiring the knowledge necessary to: carry out work in the hull up to a depth of 15 meters, intervene in the event of a leak, work for the recovery of damaged helicopters, contribute to rescue operations at sea.

During the course the students were entrusted to the expert guide of the diving leaders of the school group who together with the underwater operating group (GOS) are the flagship of the armed force and the only divers in the national territory able to intervene up to depths of 300 meters. The staff of the GOS in addition to being constantly engaged in de-mining operations in national and foreign territory, was characterized by the ability to intervene and the professionalism demonstrated during the sadly known tragedies of Lampedusa, the Costa Concordia and the Tower of Genoa.

Once the training has been completed, the new divers will now return on board their respective ships, enriched with the new experiences they have made and immediately put at the service of their respective commands to meet the numerous commitments of the Italian Navy, among which the Mare operation must certainly be remembered. Nostrum where the contribution of the OSSALCs is often to determine for the rescue of many human lives at sea.
