Vieste ship engaged in the control of underwater infrastructures

Became part of the device Safe Mediterranean (WHO) last December 29th, Ship Vieste is still engaged inSafe Seabed Operation (OFS), monitoring activities of gas pipelines and cable ducts in the Strait of Sicily and in the Adriatic Sea.

During the first quarter of the year, the bottom survey activity was coordinated by the tactical commanders of the 12th and 13th rotations of theOperation Safe Mediterranean, seeing the minehunter used not only in the control of cable ducts but also in the inspection of the three main national gas pipelines (Trans Mediterranean Pipeline, Greenstream and Trans Adriatic Pipeline) and the energy installations present in the upper Adriatic (Barbara and Adriatic LNG).

In extremely short times, it was possible to guarantee detailed mapping of the seabed adjacent to the underwater infrastructures thanks to the use of highly technological equipment present on board the naval unit: ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) capable of inspect the seabed up to 3000 meters deep.

The results achieved, of absolute importance, saw as the protagonist both the use of cutting-edge technology and the dedication and professionalism with which the crew, now at more than 70 days of consecutive activity, completed the tasks assigned in order to guarantee the safety of installations of strong strategic interest for the country's energy supply.
