The students of the 2nd class of the Naval Academy of Livorno, engaged in the 2022 education campaign aboard Nave Mimbelli, reached the port of Istanbul, Turkey

The first stop in the Eastern Mediterranean represented a precious opportunity for personal and cultural training, with the opportunity to visit the city that, on the two shores of the Bosphorus, unites Europe and Asia.

In the context of the Naval Diplomacy, Ship Mimbelli it also hosted meetings with local authorities, including the consul general of Italy, Dr. Elena Clemente, the commander of COMSARNORTH, the mayor of the great municipality of Istanbul and the governor.

In addition to being immersed in the local culture, the students of the "Legionaries" course also visited an important artistic center of the city, the Rahmi M. Koç, an industrial museum dedicated to the history of transport, industry and communications, accompanied by the consultant for the communication Dr. Bruno Cianci, in which they were able to admire the works of the painter ing. Lorenzo Mariotti, referring to important events in the history of the Royal Navy and the Navy.

Also Ship Mimbelli received as a gift for the Navy from the company Shipyard Istanbul in the person of mr. Kemal Can Gur, the "Stella di Prora" of N ave Aliseo.

The presence of a ship Mimbelli and the initiatives to promote Italian culture in the city of Istanbul therefore evoke the historical proximity between the Italian and Turkish maritime traditions, to which the flourishing ties that the city of Genoa, one of the four Maritime Republics, have been able to weave with Istanbul in the over the centuries: two cities geographically distant but united by the same culture of the sea. The "Galata" district, a former Genoese colony later incorporated into the historic center of Istanbul, remains to witness today.
