Mistral Ship, at the halfway point of the Naval Campaign, leaves Bari and heads for Catania

Nave Maestrale has reached the halfway point of the Naval Campaign with which he is greeting the country, after almost thirty-five years of service. Yesterday the Navy frigate concluded its stop in Bari to head towards Catania, after having received the embrace of the Apulian capital.

During the stop, from 13 to 16 November, the ship was open to visits for the population and students of the Bari schools who attended the conferences on the Great War and on post-graduate orientation in the Navy.

The frigate then hosted the conference "New Frontiers of the Sea", organized by the University of Bari and the workshop "Crisis Management - The Norman Atlantic Case", held on board Saturday, in collaboration with the Consular Corps of Puglia, Basilicata and Molise.
To open the work the rear-admiral Pier Paolo Ribuffo, commander of the Third Naval Group and responsible for the rescue operation carried out thanks to the intervention of the San Giorgio ship, who recalled "a complex rescue operation, with the Navy amphibious ship prepared for a sudden rescue mission in just four hours from order transforming itself, for forty consecutive hours, into a floating airport, with seven helicopters alternating to bring the passengers of the Norman Atlantic to safety. Also in Bari the commitment of the Navy for the social, with the sale of the Chocolate Hearts of Telethon, the WWF exhibitions and initiatives and with the players of the Bari football team who donated an autographed shirt of their team to be auctioned for Telethon.

At the end of the stop in the Apulian capital, the exit into the sea in favor of the students Navy League,National Sailing Association of Italy and the WWF.
While sailing, two sea turtles rescued by the WWF center in Molfetta returned to the sea with the help of the crew. Mandolite e Nyssa, of the Caretta Caretta species, had in fact been recovered from the Bisceglie navy with trawls and then subjected to clinical checks at the veterinary medicine department of the University of Bari.
The initiative is part of the collaboration agreement between WWF Italy and the Navy, a mutual commitment for the next three years for the protection of the marine environment, through information campaigns and with the launch of collaborations in scientific research projects and monitoring of the sea.
