Nave Italia, after a cure of almost four weeks, in the splendid masonry basin 1 of the Naval Arsenal of La Spezia, returns to the sea with make-up redone and ready to welcome users of the Foundation project Tender to Nave Italia.

With its 1300 square meters of sails and 61 meters in length, it is the largest schooner brig in the world. Built in the Wiswa shipyard in Gdansk in 1993 for a Dutch company with the name of "Swan fan Makkum", since 19 March 2007 it has been owned by the Foundation Tender to Nave Italia, the non-profit organization formed by the Navy and the Italian Yacht Club. Since then it has been a ship registered in the Italian military naviglio registers and managed jointly between the two partners of the foundation.

Docking is part of the maintenance program that this year was particularly challenging due to the extent of the interventions and provided, in addition to cleaning the hull and painting cycle, interventions in the engine room, the installation of an air conditioning system in the cabins.

These important interventions were made possible thanks to the sensitivity and generosity of the sponsors of Tender to Nave Italia and to the technical intervention skills of the La Spezia Arsenal, which made available its professionalism, technical means, work docks and dry dock.

The Foundation aims to promote the sea and navigation as tools for education, training, qualification, rehabilitation, social inclusion and therapy, in favor of non-profit associations, ONLUS, schools, hospitals, social services, public or private companies that carry out activities in favor of their clients and their families.

To carry out its mission, the Foundation provides Nave Italia where young people and adults who are made fragile by disabilities or physical, mental or social problems can gain awareness of their own value.
