Nave Doria left for the NATO exercise "Joint Warrior 15-2" and the "At Sea Demonstration 2015"

Ship Andrea Doria left the port of Taranto yesterday, heading towards the Atlantic waters close to northern Europe, in order to integrate with naval, air and land forces from 10 countries that will take part in the “Joint Warrior 15- 2 ”starting from early October.

The exercise will be held off the coast of Scotland and will involve about 30 naval units, 4 submarines, 14 helicopters on board, over 20 fixed-wing aircraft and ground troops, for a total of over 6.300 soldiers from 12 nations (Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Norway, Holland, Poland, Portugal, Spain, United States).

The aim is to strengthen the staff's ability to operate in a multinational context and to exercise the command and control functions in a joint environment, consolidating at the same time the training of the participants and the integration between the forces. The training theme will be oriented to maritime surveillance and safety, with the aim of favoring the sharing of operational procedures for the defense of air and sea forces from an air / missile / underwater threat.

Following, naval units of: Canada, France, Great Britain, Italy, Norway, Holland, Spain, United States will conduct the "At Sea Demonstration - 2015" (ASD 15), which aims to verify the developed capacities at sea in the context of Maritime Theater Missile Defense Forum (MTMD Forum) in the field of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD).

Under the command of vessel captain Angelo Virdis there will be a crew of over 200 men and women, including the specialist teams Brigata Marina San Marco and the Navy Flight Groups.
