Nave Doria crosses the Taranto canal for the first time

16/06/14

With an extraordinary opening of the Taranto revolving bridge, ship Andrea Doria crossed the navigable canal, to enter the Mar Piccolo at the end of an intense period of training at sea with the personnel of the Naval Air Force Training Center.

The transit, which took place under the eyes of family and enthusiasts, represented a special occasion for the Doria ship, the first unit of the new generation to have honored the Aragonese Castle of Taranto.

A perfect combination of tradition and innovation, full of suggestions, for the youngest members of the crew, and memories, for the oldest staff, which will soon be repeated when, at the end of the planned technical activity at the dock Carrieri dell'arssen of Taranto, the unit will again transit the outgoing fairway, ready to make its contribution to the fight against piracy in the waters of the Gulf of Aden.

In fact, unlike the 2011, when Doria was the flag unit of Operation NATO Ocean Shield, next July the unit will set sail for the Indian Ocean as part of the Atalanta operation, which has the same objectives under European aegis .
