Carabiniere ship: stop in Karachi

(To Marina Militare)

The European Multi-Mission Frigate (FREMM) Carabiniere of the Navy arrived yesterday in Karachi, capital of the province of Sindh and the second most populous city on Earth after Shanghai, where it will stop until the 9 April.

The frigate landed in Pakistan, after stops in Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, a month-long visit to Australia and stops in Indonesia and Singapore, taking part in several exercises with local navies and in the LIMA '17 exhibition (Langkawi International Maritime & Aerospace Exhibition) in Malaysia.

The commander of the ship, frigate captain Francesco Pagnotta, together with Pakistani Navy officers and the Italian military attaché in Pakistan, held a press conference on board during which he presented the ongoing naval campaign and illustrated the ship, jewel of Italian shipbuilding.

Ship Carabiniere is the fourth FREMM unit delivered to the Italian Navy in the "anti-submarine" 2015 version in April and is equipped with the latest generation weapon system, defense and discovery, at the forefront both in the military and civil sectors.

The unit will be committed to ensuring presence, maritime surveillance, strengthening existing co-operation activities with some trans-regional allies and establishing relationships with new potential partners in the core of institutional tasks entrusted to the Armed Forces.

The Nave campaign Carabiniere, left from La Spezia last December 20, reflects an international vision that traces this beginning of the millennium as a "blue century". That of "blue growth" is considered a key factor on which to aim for sustainable development of our country in a context where maritime is a fundamental resource for commercial growth, employment and technology.

The initiative was born with the collaboration of Fincantieri (main sponsor), Leonardo, MBDA Italia, Elettronica, Telespazio and Drass.
