Ship Bergamini committed to the protection of maritime safety and national interests

Constant commitment of the Navy, to guarantee the safety and free use of maritime spaces of national strategic interest and of the entire enlarged Mediterranean region. In this context, the prolonged operational commitment of the European Multi-Mission Frigate (FREMM) develops Carlo Bergamini, which on 21 January left the port of Taranto to head towards the Suez Canal, transited on 25 January, before joining the European Naval Force (EUNAVFOR) Somalia – operation ATALANTA, aimed at supporting the European Union's integrated device against maritime piracy in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, to protect the freedom of navigation and the legitimate use of the sea.

The FREMM lead class contributed to the operation of different maritime arrangements in the area, while providing support to other coalition initiatives in the field of maritime security.

In fact, after the period in operation "ATALANTA", Saturday 4 February Ship Bergamini continued its activity by integrating itself into the AGENOR operation, part of the European Maritime Awareness in the Strait of Hormuz (EMASOH) initiative, contributing to the air-naval device of European nations, with a predominantly maritime connotation, which operates in an area including the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean region corresponding to the Omani coasts, safeguarding the freedom of navigation and the safety of ships in transit in the Strait of Hormuz area

Thursday 9 February, exercising the traditional functions of naval diplomacy and support for the military policy of international cooperation, Nave Bergamini moored in the port of Karachi, in Pakistan, representing the Italian navy in the multinational exercise AMAN, organized by the Pakistani navy, in which over 50 nations with ships, observers or specialist teams took part.

At the end of the exercise, the navy frigate headed for the port of Abu Dhabi for an operational stop at the context of the exhibition in the defense industries sector IDEX-NAVDEX 2023 (20-24 February), a prestigious showcase of international importance for a product of national shipbuilding excellence.
