The verification of the operational capabilities of the air bases of the Navy represents an important tool for checking the efficiency and effectiveness of the commands dependent on the command of the Air Forces (COMFORAER), in order to ensure their compliance with the required operational output.

From 14 to 18 March a team of COMFORAER sector experts reached the Helicopter station of Catania to follow a plan of activities aimed at maintaining the operational capabilities and reaction readiness of the flight crews and other personnel.

Among the numerous exercises conducted, those that simulated the medical evacuation in a "biocontainment" setting of a cancer patient suffering from Covid19 and the search for a missing person in an inaccessible area of the eastern coast of Sicily proved to be particularly topical.

These exercises, in addition to testing the training of flight crews, saw the involvement of personnel from the Italian Red Cross and the National Alpine Rescue and Speleological Corps, as well as the coordination of the operating rooms of the command in chief of the naval team and of the national air and space operations center.

The activity represented an opportunity for the base and for the flying groups to verify the operational capabilities of the personnel aiming at improving performance.
