Military Navy: ships engaged in the Safe Sea operation are helping resettled migrants

Yesterday the ships of the national maritime surveillance device of the Navy rescued 734 migrants in distress in the waters of the Strait of Sicily. The patrol boat Vega he rescued 134 migrants from a rubber dinghy and 5 at sea, two of whom died despite resuscitation attempts. The frigate Grecale he rescued 115 migrants from a dinghy and then transferred them to the ship Vega.

The ship Topaz Responder, of the NGO MOAS, he rescued 485 migrants from three dinghies and later transhipped them on a ship Vega. The 734 migrants on board the Vega will be landed tomorrow in Messina.

Yesterday afternoon Topaz Responder he requested the emergency medical evacuation of two of the rescued castaways. 

The evacuation of the two migrants took place with a SH90 helicopter, boarded on the frigate Fasan, with the medical team on board. 

The two migrants, first on the frigate Grecale because equipped with a flight bridge, they received assistance from the Francesca Rava foundation doctor during the helicopter transit to Lampedusa. 

On reaching Lampedusa, the two migrants were entrusted to the care of the local hospital.

The frigate Fasan, is a Fremm unit of the Navy, headquarters of the command of the national maritime surveillance device Safe Sea.
