Today July 16 aboard the aircraft carrier Cavour moored in the Mar Grande Naval Station in Taranto, team admiral Paolo Treu passed the helm of the naval team (CINCNAV) to team admiral Enrico Credendino.

The ceremony, in some moments even touching, culminated in the traditional formula of the recognition and delivery of the war flag of the naval forces, an ideal handover of the beating heart of the Navy, men, ships, submarines and aircraft that the command of the squad coordinates and guides according to the directives of the general staff.

"The command of the naval team is in charge of the crucial management of the operational and training function of the armed force and the operational readiness of the aeronaval instrument - declared the Undersecretary of State for Defense Senator Stefania Pucciarelli - to ensure the security of national maritime spaces, but also advanced projection with functions of active deterrence, monitoring, presence, surveillance and readiness to intervene to protect national interests almost entirely dependent on the maritime dimension ".

Before the ceremony for Admiral Credendino and at the end for Admiral Treu, a naval review was held with the crews deployed on the open decks of some Navy ships, a symbolic greeting to the organic dependencies of CINCNAV which is made up of about 18.000 military, 91 ships, 6 submarines, 75 aircraft and helicopters and important commands such as the marine brigade Saint Mark, the telecommunications center and the C4s.

"We have been subjected to dramatic cuts but we have tried to operate them as far as possible from the naval team because, for the entire Defense, it is the most flexible, versatile, effective tool that can be deployed far away, where crises originate and intervene before they arrive. to touch our shores " so was the chief of staff of the Italian Navy, team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.

In his greeting speech, Admiral Treu retraced a mandate full of challenges, during which the Covid-19 emergency was addressed, which put a strain on the readiness of the aeronaval instrument. Thanks to an accurate protocol to combat the pandemic, developed in collaboration with the Navy staff, the naval team honored all the planned operational commitments, both nationally and internationally.

"I was honored and happy to have been in command of the naval team in this historical period, being able to carry out all the planned missions and operations was certainly synonymous with commitment and dedication to demonstrate a combative and resilient Italy" concluded the admiral.

Admiral Credendino, in speaking, thanked his predecessors, in particular Admiral Treu himself and continued: “Admired by the skills demonstrated by the naval team's personnel in the last year and a half characterized by the pandemic which has not weakened their spirit, enthusiasm and operations. It is from them that I want to leave, and it is on them that the naval team fully relies. "
