At the 07.30 this morning aboard the patrol boat Pound, of the Navy, included in the activity of Fishing Supervision (VIPE), was born Maria Luisa, daughter of a migrant of Somali nationality rescued by the crew.

During the birth, the mother was assisted by the medical staff of Nave Pound, of the Italian Red Cross and of the RAVA foundation.

The child is in good health and is being transferred, together with her mother, to a medical facility on the ground with a naval vehicle placed at the disposal of the Port Authority of Catania.

The mother called the child with the name of the doctor of the RAVA foundation who gave birth to her, Dr. Maria Luisa Melzi.

The patrol Pound, which during today's operations saved a total of 472 migrants and a newborn, will head towards Reggio Calabria.
