On December 4th, on the day of the Patron Saint, the theoretical phase of the first ended Advanced Specialized Course for officers designated to command submarines. To underline the importance of the course, the presence of the head of the submarine component, Admiral Dario Giacomin.

Inspired by the setting and principles of courses already existing in the most prestigious world marinas, since the beginning of the last century - like the famous Submarine Command Course English, born during the First World War in the Royal Navy, better known as “Perisher”, extremely selective - the course was created to share and homogenize the knowledge of the Commanders and therefore represents a moment of growth and standardization.

The course represents for future submarine commanders a container of experiences, a test bed of doctrine and an important moment of professional study. For this reason, by interspersing practical exercises and theoretical study, opportunities have been created for discussion with some of the most expert captains, to create a virtuous cycle of transferring experience and lessons learned between the different generations that, over time, alternate in the difficult task of taking these complex and sophisticated machines to sea.

In this first phase, which lasted 3 weeks, 4 visitors studied the theories, tactics and doctrines of the use of the underwater vehicle with an intense activity of planning and conducting practical exercises on the simulators of the Submarine Training Center where, temporarily taking on the role of the commander, they were able to bring the extremely complex machine of the submarine to the limit, trying their hand at multiple operational scenarios that characterize real missions.

With the start of this new training experience, the Submarine Training Center continues to grow, highly committed, with more than 90 courses provided for the technical and professional training of submarine personnel and other members of the FA (with courses on Underwater Acoustics) to which also participate in foreign navies (a course dedicated to an officer of the Moroccan Navy will also start shortly).

The next appointment for the 4 “perishers” will be at sea where, aboard the submarines, they will face 3 weeks of complex activities at sea to test their preparation and skills.
