On the morning of yesterday, September 26, was held in Augusta on the frigate flight deck Alpine, in the presence of the commander in chief of the naval team team admiral Donato Marzano, the ceremony of alternating command of the operation Safe Sea (COMOMS) between Rear Admiral Enrico Pacioni (transferor) and Rear Admiral Alberto Maffeis (incoming).
The operation Safe Sea, in the Central Mediterranean from 12 March 2015, provides for the use of an aeronaval device with the task of carrying out, in application of national legislation and existing international agreements, activities of presence, surveillance and maritime security to protect national interests. Among the tasks of the operation the protection of oil platforms of national interest located in international waters; the protection of national assets against possible actions by criminal organizations; the deterrence and the contrast of organizations engaged in illicit trafficking; surveillance and continuous protection of Italian fishing vessels in the area. The device operates in a sea area of about 160.000 square kilometers in the central Mediterranean.
