The ships of the Navy, San Giorgio, Espero and Sirio, with the patrol boats of the Harbor, a Guardia di Finanza patrol boat and the support of a merchant ship, last night and throughout the night have given aid to migrants arriving from African coasts.

The amphibious ship San Giorgio intervened in assistance to 4 overcrowded boats with the support of the CP 305 and CP 282 patrol boats, embarking over a thousand people, including women and children, without personal life preservers.

The patrolman Sirius in the night has completed the rescue of 113 migrants, all men, with the assistance of the merchant ship City of Silon.

The frigate Espero instead declared the emergency situation last night based on the buoyancy conditions of a boat with 261 people on board, concluding the rescue operations in the early hours of this morning.

Nave San Giorgio is heading towards the port of Augusta for the landing of migrants as ordered by the Ministry of the Interior.

Yesterday evening in the ports of Pozzallo and Augusta the ships Mistral, Euro and Foscari completed the landing of 1049 migrants rescued the 7 and 8 April.
