Arabian Sea: Mimbelli ship in training with the US Navy

03/04/14

Nave Mimbelli and the Spanish frigate Cristobal Colon (F 105), command headquarters (Flag Ship) of the Task Force 508, engaged in the NATO mission to combat piracy "Ocean Shield" have just completed a training cycle in the northern Arabian Sea between the Omani and Iranian coasts with the Carrier Strike Group 2.

The group (CSG2) consists of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George WH Bush (CVN 77) and the cruiser USS Phillipine Sea (CG 58).

The activity was mainly focused on air defense aspects and support for complex aircraft carrier operations.

Rear Admiral Eugenio Diaz del Rio, of the Royal Spanish Navy, commander of Task Force 508 (CTF 508), and part of his embarked staff of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2) had the privilege of following the entire training cycle from aboard the aircraft carrier USS George W. Bush, where they were welcomed by Rear Admiral Dewolfe Miller, commander of CSG2, and Captain Andrew J. Loiselle, commander of the Unit.

The training just ended testifies the continuous effort of NATO - and of the Navy with it - in seeking and reaching the highest level of cooperation and interoperability with the other actors present in the Indian Ocean and in the Gulf of Aden that, in common, operate for the security of the maritime domain, a crucial factor for the safeguard of stability and peace, as well as for progress and prosperity in a strategic area at global level.
