The Navy inspects underwater pipelines off Sicily

From 2 to 14 December the minesweeper Rimini of the Italian Navy, with the collaboration of the staff of DGS-UNMIG (General Directorate for Security - National Mining Office for Hydrocarbons and Geo-resources, ex-DGRME) and of the Edison company, was engaged off the coast of Sicily for the recognition of the submarine fund and infrastructure of the “Vega” offshore field, south of Pozzallo.

During the ship activity, Rimini deployed its technical-operational staff, underwater vehicles and used the sophisticated variable depth sonar system for the inspection of underwater pipelines, collecting environmental information and useful video-photographic material. to get to know the seabed.

The competition between the Navy and the DGS-UNMIG is a precious collaboration that allows to optimize the use of different Ministries resources: the synergy in fact allows to guarantee an economic saving, in the common interest of the Country and provides updated data to the scientific community on the most interesting marine areas.

The commitment of the Italian Navy is therefore confirmed in supporting the Bodies and Institutes of the State, through the use of its own means and the professionalism of its crews, in the common objective of protecting the safety of the marine environment.
