A part of the teachers of theInstitute of Maritime Military Studies of Venice, from 19 to 30 October, carried out an educational module for the benefit of 21 officers recently hired by the local police force of Venice.

The module was specifically developed by the Institute to complete the program of an articulated course, lasting about 7 months, activated for the first time at the new headquarters of the body, a very modern structure located on the island of Tronchetto. Traditionally, the entries in the initial degrees of the official role of the local police occurred for very few people at a time and were aimed at filling well-defined positions. These were often internal resources, whose training took place on the job.

The relations of fruitful and synergistic collaboration between the municipality of Venice and theInstitute of Maritime Military Studies they favored the knowledge of the effectiveness of the experiential teaching methodologies that characterize the modules of Communication and Managerial Sciences of the normal course of the staff.

Thus, when the municipal administration decided to start a program to strengthen the local police force, through a significant number of new hires, providing for a wider and more uniform initial training cycle for newly hired personnel, the Institute offered the support of some experienced teachers of the Navy for the development of a management skills module specifically designed for this need.

The collaboration took the form of an intense program of lessons and applications relating to various management skills. There was no lack of in-depth sessions dedicated to the symbols of the Republic, the ethics of officers and formal training; the latter was carried out in the evocative setting of the ancient Arsenal, in full compliance with the health precautions imposed by the delicate pandemic situation.

At the end of the qualifying training session, Inspector Sara Scarpa, course leader of the attendees, declared “The module opened a window to us on the world of communication, teamwork, problem solving and leadership; it was an excellent training ground for life and represented an experience that we will jealously preserve ".
