In the early afternoon of Thursday 2 February, the submarine Pietro Venuti entered the harbor of Taranto for the first time, to arrive at the submarine base in the naval station Mar Piccolo.

At the end of an intense period of training at sea - accompanied by two other submarines, Todaro e Longobardo and three ships, MimbelliI hope e Alpine - The Venuti, with on board the commander in chief of the naval squad, squad admiral Donato Marzano, and the commander of the submarines, division admiral Dario Giacomin, passed through the navigable channel of the "revolving bridge".

As per tradition, the boat landed for the first time at the submarine base where it was greeted with a sober welcome ceremony in the presence of all the military authorities, on duty and on leave, of the Taranto area.

During the welcoming ceremony of the Venuti, twenty new submariners received from the hands of the eldest of the submarines component, Lieutenant Giuseppe Giannotti, the qualification certificates which effectively sanctioned their entry into the underwater component.

In the speeches of the admirals, words of great satisfaction were expressed for the arrival in the fleet of the submarine Venuti, both for the Marina and for the city of Taranto.

Admiral Giacomin, underlined the importance of the city of Taranto for the armed force and the emotional bond that has existed for some time with the territory, the citizens and the institutions; it is not by chance that it is precisely in the city of the two seas that the tradition of symbolically accommodating a newly constructed submarine from the other units was consolidated, accompanying it to the first mooring. The boat represents the magnificent result achieved by the Navy, the most advanced non-nuclear submarine in the world, able to contribute to the security of the country.

In his speech at the end of the ceremony, Admiral Marzano first addressed the best wishes to the newly qualified - convinced that they will live up to the values and traditions of their predecessors, such as the second leader Pietro Venuti, gold medal for valor military, whose name the unit bears - then dwelling on the historical moment that sees the coexistence of asymmetrical risks with conventional ones, which presuppose the availability of modern means such as the submarine Venuti and of trained and motivated crews.

The Submarine Venuti, the latest addition to the "family" of U212A class submarines, under the command of Corvette Captain Antonio Salvatore D'Amico, he was delivered to the Navy on 6 July in La Spezia and successfully completed his submarine training internship.
