Mario Rossetto, born in Sanremo on January 22, 1915, went through two world conflicts, in particular experiencing the second as a protagonist, aboard the submarines engaged in the front line in the Atlantic base of BETASOM, first as an officer in second on the Tazzoli submarine, under orders of the legendary Carlo Fecia di Cossato and then as commander of the royal submarine Finzi.

Younger commander of BETASOM, he soon became the protagonist of important actions, supporting the Da Vinci submarine for the sinking of 17 ships for over 120.000 tons, and first "forcing" the Strait of Gibraltar on 13 June 1940.

In full conflict, in March of the 1942, with the precise launch of 4 torpedo sank a British ship from 7000 t.

Exactly the following year, on March 28, he sighted and sank the Greek steamship Granicos with a torpedo and, only 24 hours later, sank the British cargo steamship Castor.

For his numerous actions of war he was given important decorations to the value.

For the occasion, the commander of the submarines, Admiral Dario Giacomini, sent Mario Rossetto a letter of good wishes, delivered by an exceptional ambassador, the designated commander of the submarine Pietro Venuti, the frigate captain Giuseppe Galeandro, third unit of the Todaro class currently under construction at the Fincantieri del Muggiano plant in La Spezia.
