The Alghero minesweeper of the Navy has recently identified, in the waters in front of the port of Trapani, a war device presumably dating back to the Second World War. The discovery took place as part of a specialized seabed control activity that the ship is conducting on the approach routes to the Sicilian port to ensure the safety of navigation.

The presence of the device was promptly reported to the maritime authority and to the prefecture of Trapani which has already requested the intervention of the divers of the Underwater Operating Group (GOS) of the Underwater Command and Incursors (COMSUBIN) of the Navy in service at the Nucleo Demining Defense of Insidious Antimezzi (SDAI) of Augusta, for immediate intervention.

In the next few days the divers of the Navy, in coordination with the Sicilian maritime command, the prefecture and the port authority of Trapani will guarantee the actions of putting in safety the intervention area, with the lifting of the war device and the following blasting; the interdiction of the area will also be ensured by the coast guards of Trapani.

The activity is part of the actions carried out by the minesweeper of the Command of Mine Countermeasure Forces of the Navy (MARICODRAG) in favor of the community, aimed at guaranteeing free access to ports, keeping the maritime communication routes open, securing the transit of merchant ships and the safety of shipping, contributing, among other things, substantially to the the safety of those from the sea and the sea work daily and derive the fruit of their work.
