The Underwater Operating Group (GOS) recently organized an exercise, the SDAI Nord, which was attended by the men of the ready to use department and those of the Nuclei SDAI (Sminamento Difesa Antidizzi Insidiosi) of La Spezia and Ancona.

The training scenarios in which the operators were involved were created on the basis of the experiences acquired in the recent emergencies of the Costa Concordia, the port tower of Genoa and during the delicate operations of inactivity of conventional explosive devices found on the seabed.

These exercises also serve to co-operate teams of divers who generally carry out their tasks in isolation, in their own jurisprudence, to ensure their interoperability during events of particular importance.

The use of surface-powered diving systems for underwater cutting or welding and the use of self-contained breathing apparatus Viper SC, used to approach explosive devices with magnetoacoustic activation, were the founding elements around which the various missions that the GOS men had to face both during the day and during night dives have followed one another.

Carrying out these exercises is essential to maintain a high level of specialization and to be able to quickly and effectively deal with diving emergencies.
