The divers of the Diving Operations Group of Augusta concluded an intense week of work during which they neutralized numerous war remnants scattered in the waters of Marinella di Selinunte, Mazara del Vallo and on the island of Favignana.
As many as 25 large caliber unexploded bullets were found which, at the end of recovery, were destroyed in a safety area on the high seas, using the necessary precautions to safeguard the marine environment.
Since the beginning of the year, 2558 bombs have been neutralized at sea by the Navy divers. As always, it is advisable to remind sea enthusiasts never to touch artifacts that may seem dangerous or whose shape may resemble an explosive device or parts of it.
For the safety of all it is necessary to identify the site of discovery, possibly photograph the hypothetical device, and immediately report the discovery to the local Harbor Master's Office or Carabinieri station which will request the intervention of the Navy divers to restore usability, in full safety of that stretch of sea.
