After 17 years since the intervention of the Navy divers in Austria to provide hyperbaric support during the Lassing mine accident, the men of the Comsubin Underwater Operative Group returned to the Alps to participate in a multinational exercise involving the execution of dives under the ice in the Turracher Höhe lake.

The activity, lasting two weeks, saw 29 divers from Italy, Germany, Croatia and Austria dive with the aim of conducting operational dives under the ice, day and night, at extreme temperatures and to deepen and update the related procedures. safety (buddy breathing, rescue diver, ascent with breathing in pairs, etc ..).

The training camp, created through self-inflating tents, was placed on the banks of the lake a few meters from dive holes that were made through a thick 30 cm ice.

Among the various techniques and equipment, put to the test by the severe environmental conditions, a system usually used for the search for buried avalanches was also experimented, which made it possible to constantly know the position of the operators during their dives.

Participation in the Ice Diving Training was an important training moment that allowed the men of the Underwater Operating Group to develop the ability to know how to intervene even in extreme operational scenarios to carry out the missions that the Navy will assign them.
