The EOD divers of Diving Operations Group located at the SDAI Unit of Ancona (Defending Defense Insidious Catches) have completed the reclamation of the explosive devices found in the depths of the Trimelone Island located in Lake Garda.
The underwater operations, which began on March 29, 2016 and ended on September 23, made it possible to identify and remove over 24.700 explosive devices, in the depth range around the island, between 10 and 40 meters within the given coordinates from the Territorial Office of the Government - prefecture of Verona.
Among the medium and large caliber bullets, bombs of various kinds, grenades and fuses, 24 crates containing 1.000 detonators each, very sensitive explosive artifacts used to trigger the main charges of the devices, whose stability was compromised by the degraded state of preservation.
50 days of work, 198 hours of diving and about 40 divers authorized to recognize and remove explosive devices that have alternated throughout the period of activities in teams from 6 operators, are the numbers that represent the operational commitment supported by the Navy Military in order to restore the safety of the seabed of the Trimelone island.
