Taranto Navy Festival

In a week that saw the sea, the themes of the maritime sector and scientific research at the center of conferences and initiatives aimed at promoting maritime culture in the city of two seas, the Navy provided its contribution through the Aragonese Castle and the training ship Palinuro returning from Marshals training campaign.

The Castle hosted the Ionian Shpping Days on 15 and 16 September, the two-day event organized by the Ionian Shipping Consortium, which developed through two seminars held by important exponents of the business and institutional world, on the theme "The port of Taranto and prospects for sustainable development ".

Among the speakers, Admiral Donato Marzano, in his dual role as former Navy logistic commander and new naval team commander, who illustrated the "dual use" capabilities of the armed force.

The Aragonese Castle was also the setting for an important photographic exhibition organized by the ASD Calipso Sub Taranto.

Ship Palinuroon the other hand, on 17 September it hosted the conference organized by the University of Bari for the presentation of the results recorded during the scientific research campaign carried out, thanks to the philosophy of "dual use", on board the ship Vespucci on the occasion of "Dolphin Watching 2016".

Attending the event, representing the armed force, the commander in chief of the naval team, Admiral Donato Marzano, and the southern maritime commander, Admiral Eduardo Serra, who in his speech at the end of the works wanted to highlight how the framework agreement with the University of Bari and the results achieved so far have confirmed both the possibility of "creating a system" between institutions, and the value of collaboration as an opportunity for mutual growth.

To conclude the intense weekend, rowing competitions, canoeing and spectacular demonstrations of Fly board, all carried out in the navigable channel near ship Palinuro, moored in front of the Castle, which in just two days was visited by almost 7000 citizens.
