Monday, December 12, in the operating room of the Maritime Hospital Center of Taranto (COM), a double abdominal wall surgery was successfully performed. In the recently reorganized department, after a suspension of about 15 years, the activity was carried out by a staff made up exclusively of Navy personnel: surgeons, anesthesiologists and instrumental health technicians.
This is the first step of a broader project, already under the attention of the leaders of the Armed Forces, which is divided into infrastructural adjustments such as the modernization of the operating block and the functional recovery of internal spaces to expand the care offer: wound clinic difficile connected to the hyperbaric medicine service; possibility of accreditation of the departments of the military hospital with the National Health Service. In this regard, agreements are already active with the civil hospitals of Taranto and Francavilla Fontana (BR) for operational activities of medical personnel of the Navy in the respective complexes.
This reconfiguration will make the Taranto healthcare facility the surgical center of the Navy, with a view to multifunctionality which will involve all the specialist departments currently operating within the hospital in close functional connection with the structures of the National Health Service.
