Flight Courses at the US Navy: recognition for officers of the MM

19/01/15

The Air Wing Training Commander 5, Col. Gary Kling, presented the Academic Achievement Award to vessel lieutenants Tommaso Scolaro, Alberto Mussida and Piero Fanizza, officers of the Ares course being trained at the Helicopter Training Squadrons 8 and 18 in the base of NAS Whiting Field, Florida.

The three pilots completed their academic studies related to helicopter flight training, reaching the maximum score expected and clearly distinguishing themselves among their colleagues, including native US speakers.

The Academic Achievement Award is a coveted award bestowed on only a small number of officers in training at US Navy Flight Schools. To be eligible, aspiring pilots must complete the academic exams required by the process and be among the top 10% of all Student Naval Aviators in training.

On this occasion, three Navy-goers (less than 2% of the total number of flight school-goers) were awarded on the same day. Only in the last few months have also been conquered:

three "Navy Excellence" for the accuracy in the "Aria-Suolo" training (one for the STV Giuseppe Lamacchia and two for the AUPC Marco Raciti);
a "Student of the Month" award at the "Jet Training Squadron 9" (AUPC Raciti);
a Commodore List With Distinction in advanced training on multi-engine aircraft (GM Davide Caporale);
a Commodore List With Distinction in basic training on single-engine aircraft (AUPC Vittorio Cottini).
