The Navy has taken extraordinary precautionary measures on its own initiative to minimize the risk of contagion due to the discovery of a non-commissioned officer with COVID-19, after being at sea, on board the amphibious ship San Giusto.

The military was hospitalized at the Perrino hospital in Brindisi, where he had been brought with the symptoms related to the virus and subsequently underwent a pharyngeal swab, which was then positive. The same military then informed the command of the infection.

The Navy immediately decided to adopt extremely restrictive measures in order to protect the health of staff, family members and citizens, willing to consider each individual member of the crew as potential close contact. This means that the entire ship's crew is being reported to the health authorities for the application of the quarantine measure.

The question we ask ourselves is the following: it was really advisable to carry out landing exercises with the Saint Mark, with a ship equipped with precious capacity (operating room, isolation ...), in a moment of national health emergency?
