Adrion 2017 exercise concluded

The stage at the sea of ​​exercise has just ended Adrion 2017, held this year in the Aegean Sea, which saw the Navy participate with the patrol boat Commander Cigala Fulgosi and an embarked AB-212 helicopter.

L'Adrion It is an Adriatic-Ionian initiative born from the Interministerial Conference of Ancona of 2000, when the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the participating nations signed the "Ancona Declaration", affirming the common will to engage and cooperate for the political and economic security and stability of the Ionian-Adriatic region. The Italian Defense took part from the beginning in the initiative in a leading role with the assets of the Navy.

This year's Greek-led exercise saw the crews of the six marines train in a phase in port, to explore topics such as merchant control activities (Boarding), and other military operations at sea (Surface Warfare), but also passive safety in case of accidents (Damage Control).

Upon disembarkation from the port of Souda (Crete), with the start of the practical phase at sea, the 26 June, ship Commander Cigala Fulgosi and the other participating units (a total of 1 frigate, 5 patrol boats and 2 embarked helicopters) were engaged in exercises to improve the defense capacity against asymmetrical attacks, control of illicit trafficking, training in the use of on-board artillery and operations of maritime interdiction (MIO-Maritime Interdiction Operation), as well as in search and rescue exercises (SAR-Search and Rescue).

The exercise ended the 30 June, with the mooring of the ships in the Port of Souda and the post-activity analysis held at the NMIOTC (NATO Maritime Interdiction Operational Training Center). Also present at the NATO training centerallied maritime commander of NATO (MARCOM), Admiral Clive Johnstone, who expressed appreciation for the "Adrion which today, from the first edition at sea in the 2006, is carried out with all the 6 nations that are part of NATO.
