Following the ratification of the agreement between the Underwater Command and Raiders (Comsubin) and the Local Health Authority No. 5 of La Spezia, the 20 Settembre 2016 was carried out the first treatment of Oxygen Hyperbaric Therapy in favor of civil patients.
This was possible thanks to the modernization of the plant of the Decompression Chamber of Comsubin that now allows to intervene, in election and in emergency, in all those pathologies for which the breathing of pure oxygen under pressure, conducted according to precise indications and rigorous protocols of use, determines a strong and immediate benefit.
This equipment save life is fully efficient thanks to the determination of the Grouping Command and the dedication of the Varignano technical staff who obtained the suitability for use by the territorial department of INAIL (National Institute for Insurance against Accidents at Work), and it is accompanied by a dedicated health facility.
Thanks to Decompression Chamber Comsubin can therefore be treated in the province of La Spezia, limiting the use of external structures to the Region and therefore the discomfort for patients, decompression sickness resulting from underwater activities, carbon monoxide poisoning (a recurring event especially in the winter months at cause of malfunctioning exhaust fumes), gas gangrene, crush injuries or risky fractures and many other pathologies.
