Route Survey campaign for Vieste ship

07/08/14

Last 31 July, Nave Vieste returned to La Spezia after the intense activity conducted as part of the 2 route campaign survey year 2014. In the two months of work, the unit also took part in the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the 1 World War, a collaboration between the navy and the ministry of cultural assets and activities and tourism (MIBACT).

Nave Vieste has made available the high capacity of underwater investigation for the search and location of the wrecks of ships sunk during the First World War.

Thanks to the use of the latest generation systems, it has been possible to conduct research activities up to now never reached by minesweepers. The considerable performance of the sensors embarked on the AUV (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) which the unit has recently been equipped with, allowed it to explore extensive stretches of sea in short times, with an excellent level of detail.

The long underwater research and investigation activities have led to the location of a wreck so far not reported, lying on the bottom at a depth of about one thousand meters.

The results obtained have once again confirmed the excellent skills expressed by the navy in the field of underwater research and investigation, potential that the armed force increasingly places at the disposal of the community, constantly committing its men and means to the "dual" activities. .
