UNFAO certificate for Carabiniere ship

Certificate of recognition for the activity carried out in support of the UNFAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations). It is a ship to receive it Carabiniere, on February 20, 2016, on the occasion of the operational stop in Dar Es Salaam - Tanzania, from the hands of the deputy operational commander of the EUNAVFOR Somalia mission, Swedish Admiral Jonas Wikstrom.

The Italian ship, since last 20 October, is the flagship of the Task Force 465, the European naval anti-piracy fleet of the Operation Atalanta, led by Admiral Stefano Barbieri, embarked on board a ship Carabiniere with international staff. 

Admiral Wikstrom, on an official visit to the flag ship of the EU naval force, expressed appreciation for the significant contribution made in combating piracy to the commander of the Task Force 465 and the commander of the unit, frigate captain Francesco Saladino. and for the entire work of the flagship within the mission.

Among the tasks assigned, in fact, in the months of November and December the Italian ship conducted an intense support activity to the UNFAO, through the protection and the escort of the merchant Komarco Kestrel, hired by the United Nations. Objective, the laying of 25 fish aggregation devices, called FADs (Fish Aggregating Devices), along the Somali coast, and the subsequent monitoring and control of effectiveness, with the aim of increasing the fish population and favoring the development of the activity of fishing of the coastal population.
