Antipiracy: Mimbelli and the South Korean Munmu the Great

05/08/14

Francesco Mimbelli continues his commitment in the NATO Ocean Shield operation, to combat piracy in the Gulf of Aden and in the Indian Ocean, within the Combined Task Force 508 (CTF 508).

After the intense and prolonged cooperation activity at sea, the crew of the Italian destroyer met, during the recent operational break in the commercial port of Salalah (Oman), the crew of the South Korean republic frigate Munmu the great - currently the headquarters of command of the Multinational Combined Task Force 151 (CTF 151). Indeed, South Korean unity has also been engaged for months in the delicate activity of combating the piracy and escorting of merchant ships in the Gulf of Aden, in order to allow the free and safe transit of goods to and from the East.

The commander of the Mimbelli, captain of vessel Davide Berna, accompanied by some board officers, visited the new unit of the eastern republic, and met the commodore (corresponding to our rank of admiral) Cho Young Joo, commander of the 151 Task Force, one of the three main players in the fight against piracy in the Indian Ocean (strategic area for the progress of the entire international community), together with the commander of the 508 Task Force for the NATO Ocean Shield operation, and the commander of the 465 Task Force for the Atalanta operation under the auspices of the European Union.

The event ended with a visit on board the Mimbelli ship by the commander of Munmu the Great, vessel captain Kim Jeong Hyun, accompanied by some of his staff officers.
