24/10/14

The Calendar was presented Wednesday in Trieste, by the army chief of staff, army corps general Claudio Graziano and the president of the region Debora Serracchiani. The event was attended by Domenico Rossi, undersecretary of state for defense.

The 2015 Army Calendar, designed, created and printed by the armed force itself, has as its theme the commemoration of Italy's entry into the 1st World War. Through the twelve tables that make up the calendar, the role of the army as the first real collector of the society of that time and of national identity is told, with the style of the newspapers of the time.

The relevance of the role that the army had during the First World War was underlined by General Graziano in the introduction to the calendar, in which he highlighted how "The Great War ... a People in Arms, does not limit itself to what it was, but it is the mirror of what the Italian army is today: an institution of Italians, men and women in uniform, who share values, sentiments and ideals. Same values, same spirit of sacrifice of yesterday and of today".

The chief of staff of the army, on the sidelines of the ceremony in answering questions from the press, highlighted that "there are about 70.000 young people who ask to be part of the army every year, testifying how deep the values and traditions that it holds. Technology, systems and risks require an army of professionals in step with the times and physically hardened, able to combine the firmness and determination required today of a soldier with the humanity that distinguishes our country ". At the end of the ceremony, the historical exhibition “The Great War” was presented, created by the historical office of the Italian army.

The exhibition, starting from Trieste, will be staged, over the next 4 years, in the 110 capitals of the peninsula.
